Guild Ball Kickstarter Unboxing - Part 1

Welcome to Guild Ball Week! This little series will run (cunningly) until the end of the working week, and detail everything that turned up in my Guild Ball Kickstarter reward box.

For those that haven't heard of it, Guild Ball is a new medieval based skirmish ball game made by Steamforged Games. Gamers take control of one of several Guilds, ranging from Masons to Morticians, Brewers to Butchers, with the goal of either scoring more goals than your opponent or leaving them in such a shape that they are unable to do the same to you.

Now, onto the box of goodies. It arrived on Friday, and contained the following:

6 Guild Ball Teams - Fisherman's Guild, Mason's Guild, Alchemist's Guild, Butcher's Guild, Mortician's Guild and The Union.

Each of the 5 Guilds I have consist of 6 models - 1 Captain, 1 Mascot, 1 Big Guy and 3 regular sized but still characterful players to round out the squads. The Union is a little different, as they can either be used as a team together, or they can be drafted into certain other teams to give them a boost.

Each team plays a little differently, and I'll go into that more when I do full team breakdowns in the coming days. Tomorrow will see the Fisherman's Guild and Mason's Guild, Thursday will have the Alchemists and Butchers, while to end the week we'll have the Morticians and The Union.

So, what else was in the box?

Well, right at the bottom was the rulebook. During the Kickstarter this was upgraded from an A5 book to a full on A4 landscape beauty.

Along with the book, there are 5 balls, one for each Guild, and 5 KS Exclusive Guild Ball medallions. These replaced the Exclusive goals that were going to be included, but restraints put and end to that.

The medallions are resin circles that fit on 50mm bases.

Other resin in the box was a set of resin base toppers for each Guild (again, the Union misses out), so there are 25 small and 5 large.

I've mentioned previously that I use jam jars to stand miniatures on while I paint them. There is another reason for using them - they are still excellent storage devices.

Finally, there were some KS/Show/Event exclusive dice. Each faction has their own coloured dice available from stockists, but this lovely swirled brown/red with gold GB "sixes" are a restricted commodity.

I'm very much looking forward to getting stuck in to this, there are some cracking sculpts and the models are nice, clean casts, but more on them tomorrow!

  1. I was a little disappointed with this. £105 and what came just looked like components for a game in a little cardboard box, all just thrown together in no particular order. I haven't even looked to see if I have everything involved because it just looks a mess.
